Sexual Integrity 24/7™

Confidentiality

I understand that the coach is legally and ethically bound to protect the confidentiality of our communications.  This provides the freedom necessary to address goals and even challenges that may impede the achievement of goals.  When discussing issues related to pornography, sex, or love addiction recovery coaching, confidentiality is vital in creating an environment in which the client and coach can discuss important issues and co-create goals in which the client can develop of life of recovery and freedom.

There are, however, a few instances in which confidentiality cannot be upheld.   Confidentiality does not apply when it is necessary to protect the client or others from harm.  Also, if the coach becomes aware that a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person is being abused, the coach is obligated to report that information to legal authorities.   If the client is an imminent risk to him/herself or makes threats of imminent violence against another, the coach is required to take protective action.   Such instances are rare in the coaching situations, if such instances should occur, the coach will make every reasonable effort to discuss the situation with the client before any action is taken.  Given us possible use of technology in daily communication, it is important for the client to be aware that it is impossible to provide total protected confidentiality of information that is transmitted electronically.
